San Diego Plumber mentions Gerorge Eastman of Kodak.
Dale Carnegie tells a story about when Mr. George Eastman of Kodak fame, was building the Eastman School of Music and also Kilburn Hall. Mr. Adamson president of Superior Seating Company went to go see if he could get the order for the seats.
When Adamson arrived he was told to take no more than five minutes, for Mr. Eastman was very busy. Upon entering the office, they greeted each other politely. Mr. Adamson said, "While we've been waiting for you Mr. Eastman I've been admiring your office. I wouldn't mind working in a room like this myself. I'm in the interior-woodworking business. and I never saw a more beautiful office in all my life."
While he had been told to take only five minutes if he wanted any chance to get the order, several hours passed talking about the woodworking in the office. And Mr. Adamson also questioned him about how his early struggle to get started in business. And about his early experiments, in film, all the MEANWHILE Mr. Adamson was LISTENING. (Mr. ADAMSON DREW HIM OUT WITH OTHER QUESTIONS AND LISTENED).
Then Later Mr. Eastman mentioned to Mr. Adamson about some chairs he had purchased and redone himself. Which he invited Mr. Adamson over to his home to see the chairs, and to have lunch. Which of course he accepted. WHO DO YOU THINK GOT THE ORDER for the SEATS which amounted to 90,000 ?? (Remember this was around the turn of the century, so the price into today's dollars was probably around 10+ more times.)
THERE IS ONE IMPORTANT LAW THAT IF WE FOLLOW. WE WILL ALMOST NEVER GET INTO TROUBLE. THE LAW IS "ALWAYS MAKE THE OTHER PERSON FEEL IMPORTANT!! Remember what William James said "THE DEEPEST PRINCIPLE IN HUMAN NATURE IS THE CRAVING TO BE APPRECIATED." (TO FEEL IMPORTANT.)
Begin to practice giving sincere compliments, HONEST appreciation, Thank You's, Please, LISTENING. Without always Trying to Get Something out of the OTHER Person in return---If our souls are no Bigger Than Crab Apples, We Shall Meet with failure we so richly DESERVE. For Remember the GOLDEN RULE "GIVE UNTO OTHERS WHAT WE WOULD HAVE OTHERS GIVE UNTO US"!!
