San Diego Plumber, Comments on using a Quality sealant, on a plumbing fixture.
Posted on Quora
I was taught by a Master Plumber (By The GRACE of GOD) a while ago. Anyways back to your Question. Jack would tell me, (The Master Plumber who Taught Me). If it isn’t done right the first time do it over again. So, Yes Take all the caulking Off and don’t try to shortcut it. Basically, take off as much as is possible.
And USE GOOD QUALITY CAULKING ( If You use the Cheap stuff Like the $2.00 stuff, those usually will build Mold and Mildew. With time they look dark.
The Brand I use is Called “DAP” (Costs around $6.25 for a 10. ounce tube, it has a Lifetime Guarantee Against MOLD and Mildew ) and is for Kitchen and Bathroom, comes in White or Clear.
And Like I said it can be cleaned up with Water. I usually use a white Clean rag, and then just soak it in water and RINSE THE RAG REAL GOOD, Put it in like in a tourniquet and rinse out the rag real good. Then I use my finger to get the caulking on and finish it up with the Moist Rag. There are some Plastic Tools to use for getting it at a 45 Degree angle, but that’s how I was taught so I always just use my finger and touch up with a Moist Rag.
